during our visit to the parque central we were "befriended" by castro. he spoke good english and offered us a "cheap" tour of the downtown puerto plata area.

while on the island in the samana bay i befriended this young boy who became my waiter. i was waited on hand and foot as long as money was involved.

built between 1564 an d1577 was meant to protect the northern coastline of the island from raids by pirates and buccaneers.

the day was wind we visited the fortress of san felipe. built between 1564 and 1577 the fort overlooks the harbor to puerta plata and was ment to protect against pirates and buccaneers. a group of children were flying homemade kites high above the fortress.

it was so amazing to see the homemade kites these boys had made out of mulicolored twines tied together and then tied to black garbage sacks with twigs as crossbeams.

sosua was the name of a beach inbetween playa dorado and cabarete.

this is one of those serindipitious shots. i had just shot three rolls at another spot, and didn't feel that i had "got the shot." as i walked back to the hotel, i turned around one last time....and i got the shot of the playa dorado (golden beach).
